Circle Time Connections is a therapeutic small-group program designed for children who are beginning to develop the foundational skills needed for participation in group learning environments but may not yet be ready for the demands of a classroom readiness program such as Classroom Connections.
For many children, learning alongside peers can be challenging. Sitting near other children, sharing attention with a group leader, participating in songs and activities, tolerating environmental noise, waiting for turns, and transitioning between activities all require a complex combination of sensory regulation, communication, social-emotional skills, and attention.
Children who become overwhelmed by sensory input, struggle with transitions, have difficulty participating in group activities, or require significant adult support to engage may benefit from Circle Time Connections before progressing to more advanced classroom readiness programs.
At Children’s Therapy Connections, we recognize that participation difficulties are often related to sensory processing differences, communication challenges, emotional regulation needs, and developmental readiness rather than a lack of motivation or willingness to learn. Our neuro-affirming approach focuses on helping children feel safe, supported, and successful while gradually building confidence in group settings.
Circle Time Connections incorporates therapeutic support from Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Applied Behavior Analysis to create meaningful opportunities for children to practice foundational group-learning skills within a highly supportive environment.
Activities may include:
• Greeting routines
• Songs and movement activities
• Shared book reading
• Turn taking opportunities
• Following simple group directions
• Visual schedules and routines
• Peer observation and interaction
• Sensory regulation supports
• Structured transitions
• Early communication opportunities
• Group participation activities
Children are encouraged to participate at their individual level while receiving the accommodations and support they need to be successful. The goal is not perfect participation, but rather increasing comfort, engagement, regulation, and confidence within a group setting.
Circle Time Connections may benefit children who:
• Become overwhelmed by noise or activity levels of peers
• Have difficulty participating in group activities
• Struggle with transitions
• Have limited tolerance for shared attention
• Require significant adult support during structured activities
• Experience sensory sensitivities that impact participation
• Have difficulty waiting, taking turns, or remaining with a group
• Are preparing for preschool, kindergarten, or Classroom Connections
Through positive experiences, therapeutic support, and gradual exposure to group learning opportunities, Circle Time Connections helps children build the foundational skills necessary for successful participation in school, community, and social environments.
