Home AssessmentEvery child experiences the world differently, and the home environment plays a significant role in their ability to participate in daily routines, develop independence, regulate emotions, communicate effectively, and engage with family members.

Children’s Therapy Connections’ Home Assessment Program is designed to help families better understand how their child’s unique strengths, challenges, sensory needs, communication abilities, and daily routines interact with their home environment.

While therapy sessions provide valuable opportunities for skill development, many challenges occur during everyday activities at home. Morning routines, mealtimes, homework, self-care tasks, sleep routines, transitions, family outings, sibling interactions, and household expectations can all impact a child’s success and a family’s overall quality of life.

Our interdisciplinary team may conduct a comprehensive assessment of the child’s home environment, including both indoor and outdoor spaces, daily routines, safety considerations, accessibility, sensory influences, communication opportunities, and areas that may either support or unintentionally create barriers to participation and independence.

Using a neuro-affirming, family-centered approach, our team collaborates with caregivers to identify practical strategies that support the child’s development while respecting each family’s values, routines, resources, and priorities.

Recommendations may include:

• Environmental modifications
• Sensory supports and regulation strategies
• Communication supports
• Independence-building opportunities
• Home organization strategies
• Safety recommendations
• Mealtime supports
• Sleep and bedtime recommendations
• Behavioral and routine-based strategies
• Adaptive equipment recommendations
• Community resources and supports

The goal is not to create a “perfect” home environment. The goal is to create an environment that works for your child, supports your family’s needs, and promotes greater success in everyday life.

Following the assessment, families receive individualized recommendations designed to improve participation, independence, regulation, safety, communication, and overall family functioning.

Home Assessments allow therapy recommendations to move beyond the clinic and into the places where children learn, play, grow, and connect with the people who matter most.
